A Retreat on Lake Anna

After working with us to remodel their home in Alexandria, Virginia, this couple asked us to design their dream home on a 3 acre lot on Lake Anna in Spotsylvania County.

They planned to spend time on the lake with lots of family and friends, and wanted a home where they could entertain and spread out. They wanted beauty, comfort and maximization of the views. And as she put it, they wanted a home where children could sit around “in damp, but not wet bathing suits!”

Equally importantly, they wanted a home that would be energy efficient and low maintenance. The house is sited to take advantage of the lake views and southern sun. It is built of stucco and stone, highly insulated, with a state-of-the-art air conditioning and heating system. A key element of the design is a freestanding screened porch with a cupola, which serves as the knuckle connecting the main house and the guest quarters. It is a home we are very proud of.
